Long-distance move from Florida to California

Horrible Experience, DON'T USE THEM!

Took a whole day to load all of my already packed things into the van, then charged double what the estimated the cost once everything was already loaded. They then told me that my things would be delivered no later than April 28th which gave them a full ten days to get everything to its destination, I drove to the same place in three, they did not actually deliver my items until seventeen days after it was picked up. They then tried to charge us a "late" payment fee because apparently we didn't have the type of money order they wanted, which was not specified at all. They also charged us another fee because they couldn't park close enough. I went into my storage unit after they had everything packed in there and the majority of my furniture is broken now, also boxes clearly marked "GLASS" had heavy items stacked on top of them. The whole experience was highly dissatisfying and I am disgusted that they charge so much for breaking my furniture. I HIGHLY recommend not using this company and not letting your friends us them either!

Official company response

Hello Ashlyn,

Dear Ashlyn and all other customers who would like to submit review for our company. Please provide us with little bit more information regarding your relocation, so it will be easy to locate your file and find out what happen with your move. Information what you can attach along with your review might be: job number, moving date, states of relocation. Thank you for your cooperation.

Ashlyn, it is not that easy to figure out relocation to what state we performed for you, but if I am not mistaking you were going to CA state.

I want to agree, you rightly pointed out that our company spent a whole day to pick up your belongings, the cause of which was the huge number of items. Originally you provided us with inventory list for 31 peaces, what we need to pick up, then after we came we took 63 peaces, which is more then double of what you mentioned to us in the beginning. However we did not charge you double price, I would like to point on that.

Our company provides rates, which is your price, same for reserved and an additional items for all our customers, and you were not exception. You estimated amount was $ 1147.50 for 306 CF for 31 peaces, and additional amount of $ 1102.50 for 294 CF for 32 peaces. So as you see on that example your price per CF remain the same and total CF chargers are less then double.

Based on Revised Written Estimate that was signed by you at 9 am, confirming your revised estimate which includes your new inventory of items for the amount of $ 3650, your opinion as to what total moving cost was provided you after we loaded the truck is wrong. We did inform you in the beginning of the move, even before we start loaded your belongings. As per contract we submitted pick up on Apr.18.2013 from 9 am to 3.30 pm.

Delivery was made on May.04.2013 which is feet in time frame of 15 days for your delivery from the date of your request, as we promised. However by regulations all moving companies have ability to submit delivery within 30 business days from the date of your request for delivery.

As per contract signed by you or your representative you where informed about forms of payment. You were aware that up on delivery company accepts payments in form of Cash or Postal Money Order ONLY. Refusing to submit payment may cast you extra chargers: such as Redelivery Fee, Storage Fee, and Labor Fee. Company representative inform you about these fees after we heard from you that you not able submit payment in form it was agreed.

Additional Service, which include:
Stairs
Long Carry
Shuttle
Re Delivery
Waiting
Storage

Information regarding additional service was provided to you up on pick up, explaining what does these fees applying for, what was confirm by your signature, as well as per Long Distance Form submitted by you up on pick up, information about existing long carry up on delivery was never mentioned.

Your belongings were delivered into on your storage facility, based on your request. Our crew stuck your shipment into a storage facility follow by safety requirements keeping heavy items on the bottom and light items on the top due to limited space of the storage unit.

Finally I would like to mention for those who looking for moving company. We do understand your wish to take care of your own belongings, and we appreciate your help for doing so. But we need to understand that there is certain specific way of getting ready for your relocation. So don’t count for wasting your time to spend few more minutes to find out how to prepare your self for your upcoming relocation. One call may safe a lot.

Our representatives are always available to assist you with all of your moving needs. Just give us a call.

Long-distance move from Florida to Georgia

Excellent service.

My experience from start to finish was wonderful. Chad was wonderful. His professionalism made this transition easy. I would recommend Sunshine state moving to everyone. From our initial contact, he made sure I understood how he came up with the quote. He also was easy to contact when I had any questions. On moving day, he made sure the movers were on time and professional. once my load arrived, he made sure there were no issues. .

Long-distance move from Florida to Michigan

Go with another company if you can..

I moved from FL to Michigan. The movers were courteous and prompt. My items arrived on time in Michigan, however very damaged. The movers that delivered my items broke a box that was labeled FRAGILE in front of me. However, with any long distance move items such as glassware, vases, and glasses can be expected to be damaged. I can handle those items being broke those are replaceable. Sunshine broke my Samsung flatscreen and a dresser. I filed a claim and I failed to realize my insurance was only for  $.60 per lb. PLEASE PAY FOR EXTRA COVERAGE.. I settled for $66.72 on May 7 and as of today they have failed to pay me my $66.72. I paid $5k to move and they are making me beg for $66.72. I have called and left several messages for Yuri and no response. If a company can't pay out a lousy $66.72 settlement, don't use this company. The kicker is Yuri said I will try to get you more money, really I just want my settlement amount and call it a day. Movers beware stick to the well known moving companies, I chose this company for their cheap price and it cost me more at the end.

Official company response

Hello Wanda,

We would like to thank you for your opinion on our crew. Unfortunately sometimes accidents happen, and there is so many reasons causing damage. That is way we provided you with information and assistance how to get ready for your move, explaining proper way of packing boxes, empty items intended for clothes, electronic etc. Along with that packing materials which plays important role on your relocation. You are right that better to pay extra in the beginning then be disappointment at the end.

Our company provided affordable price for your move, as well we did inform you that there is packing involved, and that you have an option: either bring your own packing materials, so we can use it free of charge, or purchase packing from our company, which is little expensive compare to what you can find in store. We mentioned to you how important packing is, and that it is protects your belongings. It was your decision to save on packing, especially packing of the items such as TV’s .

Company does not provide insurance at all. We have valuation, which includes 2 options. And again it was your decision to stay with $ 0.60 cents per pound per article protection option. Of course it does not meet your expectations, but we did mentioned about that, and you agreed for that because it is free.

By the way, your total moving cost is $ 3377.80, which is way less then you mentioned.

Regarding your conversations with Yury, as system shows that he steel work with you, responding and providing with information based on your request. Please be understanding that your relocation was completed in 2012, and your paperwork and all information for your relocation were archived, that is way some of respond taking time.

Finally I would like to thank you for your opinion about our service; it does help us to improve quality of the service.

Long-distance move from Georgia to Oregon

Poorest Customer Service.

Poorest customer service in the business. My daughter and her husband moved to Oregon a couple of months ago. In trying to be cost efficient she priced many moving companies and landed on sunshine state moving. The price changed and fees were added on that were not discussed. Their household goods were late in arriving. A single box was missing and it took a month to get the box only to end up with someone Else's things. Nothing worse than a business that takes advantage of their customers.

Official company response

Hello Yvonne,

It is easy to say when you aware of situation. As I understood this move regards to Ana M.

Regarding price changing, price for relocation of Ana remained the same. Total moving cost changed based on Revised Written Estimate. As per paperwork we have 56 peaces of articles scheduled to be moved. When our crew arrived customer added additional items, what was the reason for recalculation and increasing total moving cost. NO FEES WAS ADDED. Your total moving cost includes:

Estimated Volume
Additional Volume
Fuel Surcharge
Packing materials

Information about pricing was provided to customer in very beginning by the time we scheduled customer for pick up. As well, our crew informed customer about all changes up on pick up before we even start loading customers good.

On paperwork for Ana we have no notes regarding missing box. However we work with Ana, trying to figure out what happen. After investigation we located one unknowing box. We sent pictures of that box to Ana, asking to confirm that this is what she missing, after conformation we ship it. Currently we working on that, and we in touch with customers, providing all steps we are going though.

All additional information you can request by contacting office at 1800-730-3780.

Long-distance move from Florida to North Carolina

Worst compant ever!

I have been dealing with this company since the 9th of May. I chose this company because they not only had the best quote I could find but they also seemed to have a reliable reputation. Unfortunately I am being proved wrong. My move was originally scheduled for May 31st, the company due to over booking had to switch it to May 30th which I worked with. I was the told my furniture would arrive no later than June 3rd and most likely June 1st as I had hoped. June 3rd went by and now it is June 7th nine days later. Yesterday June 6th I was called with my 24 hour notice of delivery. At 7:45pm this evening I called my driver to ask for an update-he is still 3 hours away. I live in an apartment complex full of United States Marines and their families who wake up at 4am each day (my husband is one of them). The driver is now arriving tomorrow morning-so he says. Tomorrow my husband will be coming home after being gone for over two months to come back for two months then leave again for 6-8 months. The last thing I want to do is deal with movers when we are reunited but now I do not have a choice. Not only is the timing horrible, but my quote was off by $679! I expected it to be a little more, maybe by $200 but not almost $700 (mind you the movers did not take anything not on my inventory list). To add to everything they also got my payments mixed up and there was supposed to be a large amount on a credit card and then a smaller amount in cash upon delivery. Well they put the small amount on the card and expect the large amount on delivery. I am very disappointed and unhappy with this company and will never use them again. Being a military family we rely on these types companies to help us out especially when our husbands are away which is what I expected to receive yet unfortunately that is not the case. This is my 9th night without a bed and sleeping on the floor. My phone calls nor emails have been answered. I still do not have my furniture so who knows what condition everything is in at this point.

Official company response

Hello Kinti,

I would like to confirm that Sunshine State Moving Company provides everyone with best quotes and great service. But what is more important, what company care about is providing enough information, even before we add any one to our schedule.

By the time of providing you with an estimate company informed that for every pick up company came up with window of two days. By contract we have, we appear at your place on May 29, 2013, and originally you where scheduled for May 30, 2013. We did pick up according to our agreement.

Your request for delivery was on June 1, 2013. Company submitted delivery June 11, 2013. Delivery was submitted within promised time frame, which is up to 15 business days from date requested for delivery. As per Interstate Bill of Lading Contract, Sec. 7: “…We guarantee delivery to take place within 30 business days of the date first available for delivery…”

By the way, with all respect to military, especially being the person, half of whose family has been in the war and some of them were killed, I don’t think that is attached to your relocation in any way.

Total moving cost of your relocation is $ 1679.00, which is $ 657.87 more then was provided in Estimate. As well your Inventory of articles you provided our representative by the time on working with estimate was less compare to actual Inventory of articles we picked up. Increasing number of items for your relocation caused you increasing total moving cost. Your rate was remained the same.

Up on pick up, our crew picking up items ONLY what was pointed by you, nothing less nothing extra.

According to Interstate Bill of Lading Contract and Authorization for Payment, you allowed company to submit payment at the pick up in amount of $ 338.50 in form of Credit/Debit card, leaving balance of $ 839.50 for delivery.

According to system records for your file, all your calls and e mail was answered in order they were received.

For any additional information you can contact office at 1-800-730-3780.

At the end, I would like to mention that company does honor military families, and with all respect, knowing what they are doing for the country, doing best in order to accommodate there wishes and come up with most reliable and affordable solutions.

What we asked in return, is approach more closely to information that you provided company with, on the basis of which the company makes an estimate of your move. In case you missed something, the company can not be held responsible for omissions.

Do Not Move With This Company.

This company is beyond horrible; if it were possible to give them a rating of zero stars then I certainly would. When considering your move, be sure to pass on choosing Sunshine State moving company. This business is not only shady, but also rude with terrible customer service skills. We scheduled a move from Charlotte, NC to Boston, MA. The move out of Charlotte was to take place on June 11, 2013 and sunshine was to move our belongings into storage until our scheduled move to Boston on July 1st. I received an email the morning of the 11th from Yury saying that they would be at our apartment between 5 PM and 7 PM that day. That was problem number one since the move was originally schedule for 8 AM that day. Later in the day, Chad calls back saying that the movers will not be there until tomorrow (mind you that this is after a long day of being led on by false promises and lies as to an accurate arrival time from sunshine). This again is a problem because the move was scheduled to take place on the 11th. The movers show up the next morning (the 12th) in a Penske moving truck that they most likely rented from Home Depot. It is a crew of 2 movers in a 20 ft. truck. It takes them about 6 and a half hours to clear out a 2 bedroom apartment, even though we had already packed all of the items in the apartment. Another problem occurs on the late moving day when our driver tacks an extra $1250 to the original quote (our original quote was $1524 with all charges included, and the final bill was around $2800). We pay the difference because we are essentially forced to do so (they of course notified us of the price increase AFTER all of our belongings were on the truck and it was impossible for us to negotiate the true price; this is a textbook moving-scam maneuver). After this, our belongings are moved into storage (which I am fairly certain is an open field or forrest judging by the amount of bugs and dirt that were on our boxes and furniture upon arrival in Boston). The move-in date of July 1st comes and goes with nothing but more false promises and leading-on by sunshine (Chad seems to be an expert at lying). 90% of the time that we call the office, it goes to voicemail or someone answers and promises to have Chad or Yury call back but fails to do so. The office is either staffed with one person or with those that wrote the book on how to consistently and persistently frustrate customers; they will never give you a straight answer. Chad assures us that the move-in date will be July 4th or 5th; this date comes and goes as well. The date then is supposed to be the 8th; this dates comes and goes. The lying and leading-on continues; every time we speak to Chad he exhibits his rude and pompous attitude and complete lack of customer service skills. The movers finally arrive on July 12th (mind you that sunshine is very much in breach of contract at this point). The boxes arrive in terrible shape (I will post pictures); not only is every box heavily-damaged, but there are also bugs and dirt in many of the boxes. In addition, numerous clothing items have mold and mildew on them (not to mention that every box of women's clothing was mysteriously and creepily opened). The movers are insanely rude and pushy; I had to tell the guy to lower his voice a number of times. Communication skills are lacking in these movers as only one member of the crew speaks english. Lastly, some of our items are lost as well as being damaged. The movers also refuse to reassemble the bed that they disassembled is Charlotte because they lost the screws (according to the driver, this was of course the fault of someone else; this company has superb expertise at passing the buck). DO NOT GO WITH THE MOVING COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Any reviews that you read are most likely false reviews written by sunshine movers themselves. I'm seriously not kidding DO NOT MOVE WITH SUNSHINE STATE MOVING COMPANY.

Horrible dishonest company
First too small a truck n only 2 movers / promised3-4. Quoted one price then doubled . It took a entire day past midnight to move our belonging to storage n days to move us in. Broke, scratched n destroyed over $2000 in furniture . Totally destroyed my brand new dinning table n guy who did wasn't even sorry just complained he needed help and didn't have any. Their insurance co. was going to give me a check $300 but the company stopped them saying they were going to pay me instead, however never heard from them again. Almost a year ago and still fighting for a measly $300 for $2000 damages. The company preys on their customers at their most vulnerable . Very very dishonest !

Sunshine State Movers.

When the packers first arrived at our home they were three young men and seemed to be hard workers. They were from foreign countries and had difficulty communicating. I though they did a good job wrapping everything in quilts and used alot of tape. I understood we only had a partial load so our things would be taken to a warehouse until they had another move going north. Delivery was at midnight Saturday night before Palm Sunday.  Due to the late hour my grandaughter and I started to unwrap some of the furniture only to discover that several pieces were damaged beyond repair. The driver looked at the items and said "Oh, I am so sorry. This is bad." He took pictures and documented the damages. All we had available to us was a cell phone to take photots. I was moving into a small retirement apartment and did not have room at keep all of the brokrn items(Nine pieces in total) so after we had the photos we threw out the damaged furniture as I had to go out and buy all new. One item of value that was missing was a craftmens tool three drawer chest full of tools. Upon reporting this item they looked in the warehouse and found the chest. After several e-mails and phone calls they promised they would have it shipped to us. It has been several weeks now and no tool chest. I e-mailed them that I guess I have no choice but to report it as a theft as I know they have it and have docunentaton from them confirming they have it and have not returned it to me. I am very disappointed with this move and would advise anyone not to use this company. I am on SS disability and have limited resources. I chose this company because they were in the price range I could afford. I guess you should never go with the least expensive.

Long-distance move from Georgia to Florida

Never Again.

I've never used a moving company before, and I PROMISE I will never use this one again.  When I first scheduled my move with this company, I received a quote of $1250.00, which was about $200 less than previous quotes I had received.  The woman, Amy, who I set everything up with, told me I would have my belongings delivered within 5 days of pick up.  After she received my downpayment, I could never get ahold of her again.  I was then talking to a man named Sean.  I was traveling from out of state to meet to movers from my old location, and was told that I would receive a phone call by 6PM the day before letting me know what time they would be at the house.  They did not call me until 8PM though, and told me that they would be at my location at 8AM.  I immediately had to get on the road, being that I was traveling from 5 hours away.    When the truck arrived, it had a 8x11" paper taped to both doors saying "Sunshine State Moving" (GHETTO!).  There were two young men, who didn't speak English very well.  Even though the items that were to be moved were the exact same ones listed on the inventory/quote, he then told me that it was going to cost me more because it was going to take up more cubic feet in the truck than they had expected.  They also charged me a total of $150 for packing supplies (even though they were supposed to be included).  All of my items were boxed and ready to go when they arrived, but they charged me for packing tape (at $3.50 a roll x 20 rolls) to tape the included blankets around the furniture, as well as charging me for plastic wrap to secure the wrapping blankets/furniture.  I was in a bind, and needed to be out of my apartment on that specfic day, so I had no choice but to go with it.  On a positive note, the two men were very polite.    The movers picked up my belongings on Saturday and I was told to expect them that Wednesday.  I called the office on Tuesday because I hadn't heard anything and needed to know if I needed to take off from work for the delivery.  When I called, I could not reach anyone from the 1-800 number that I had been using.  I found a phone number with a Florida area code on their website, so I called that, and actually got a man who primarily spoke English.  He told me that they would be delivering Friday or Saturday, and that they would call me at least 24 hours ahead of time to let me know for sure.  Friday came, and I didn't hear anything, so I called the 1-800 number and got Sean on the line again.  He told me that they would be there Sunday or Monday, and once again, that they would call me a day ahead.   Monday came around, and I still hadn't heard anything.  Then, I received a text message from a random number that I had never seen before asking if it would be ok for him to deliver my belongings at 10pm that night! I don't think that it gets any more unprofessional than that! I texted him back and told him to have the office call me to set up a proper time.  Sean called me and set up delivery for 8am on Tuesday.  I went ahead and worked things out with my manager to take the entire day off on Tuesday so that I could be home for the delivery.   Tuesday came, and at 9:30AM, the movers still hadn't arrived, and I hadn't heard from them.  After several failed attempts, I finally got Sean on the phone who told me he would try and contact the driver and then would get back to me.  Around 10:15, I received a text message from the driver saying that he was an hour away and that he would get on the road in 15 minutes.  When he arrived, he immediately wanted his payment before he would start bringing in my belongings.  Payment was in the form of cash or money order, and I had the cash, but after the way they had handled the situation, I did not want to give him the cash, and have him run off with my belongings, or not deliver them all, so I refused to give him the money up front.  He then refused to begin unloading my items, and said he'd have his dispatcher call me.  Sean then called me, and told me that he needed the payment or that they weren't going to be able to deliver my things and the next time they came out, they would charge me $500 more for an extra delivery fee.  Sean and I got into a heated argument after he would not accept responsibility for the poor service that they had provided me with, he hung up on me, and called the driver, telling him to leave with my belongings.   The driver then left, and I still didn't have any of my things.  I called the driver and asked him to come back with my items (because I already wasted a day off from work and really just wanted the process to be done and over with) and he said he would need the money and to check with his dispatcher.  THe driver came back, I paid him, and he delivered/set up my thing (mind you, it was only one delivery man).  He was professional during this portion of the delivery and everything arrived undamaged.  HOWEVER, I REFUSE to ever use this company again.  Save yourself the time, stress, and money, and go with a different company.
